BUY THE DVD: http://www.henrytenby.com/DVDs/Yellowknife.html Twenty years before Ice Pilots became a realty show hit, aviation videographer Henry Tenby was video documenting the vibrant Yellowknife aviation scene in the mid 1990s while employed by local airline NWT Air. Plenty of footage filmed on the main Yellowknife apron features Canadian North and NWT Air Boeing 737-200s and Bradley/First Air HS748s. You'll witness passengers boarding, cargo handling, engine starts, taxi and runway action with superior noise qualities. In Old Town Yellowknife there's extensive footage of Air Tindi Twin Otters, Turbine Otters and Beavers on wheels, skis and floats.

This video was filmed during the 1993 YVR Airline Expo which was an airline collectibles show held at the River Inn in May of that year. The show was organized by Henry Tenby with help from Glen Etchells and Mike Brown. Due to the recession that show was poorly attended with very few people spending money, to the chagrin of those attending as depicted in this clip, filmed by Henry Tenby. Due to poor attendance this was the last Vancouver Airline Expo show organized by Henry Tenby and friends. The following airline fans appear in this clip: Mike Brown, John Kimberley, Erik Johannesson, Glen Etchells, Gary Vincent, John Wegg, John Dekker, Frank Morton, Terry Waddington, Billy Stefanchuck, Alex McPhee, and Bob Surman.

AirlineTV.net report by Henry Tenby: On Thursday, July 16, 2009, YVR’s much anticipated new public observation area was officially opened before a crowd of invited VIPs, the media, and other invited guests. The new observation area is massive, and will surely attract aviation fans from all over the world as the view and facilities are nothing short of impressive. Facing west, the massive enclosed room is accessed via escalators from the pre-security food court in the public area of the Domestic Terminal, and is open 24H with no admission fee. Kudos to YVR for bucking the trend and being the only airport in North America to open a brand new airfield viewing facility of this magnitude in the past several decades. And for that, the local community and the international aviation enthusiast community is greatly impressed. Congratulations to forward thinking YVR in making this dream a reality, and their extremely generous gift to the community at large. Hopefully other airports will follow suite.
