This DVD starts off with our Aerolineas Argentinas MD-83 flight from the Buenos Aires Aeroparque down to to Ushuaia. We board the aircraft on the apron just before sun up, and enjoy an early daylight departure from the Aeroparque. Our four hour flight south to Ushuaia passes quickly and we're soon on final approach to the Ushuaia Airport in Tierra Del Fuego.
Ushuaia has to be one of the most scenic airport settings in the world. Neslted against mountains on the Magellin Straight at the southern most tip of South America, the towering snow-capped mountains set against the open water and the clear air makes this a very special airport for aircraft enthusiasts and spotters. This DVD shows our landing and taxi-in to the gate from the aircraft cabin along with exterior footage as well.
After an introduction to the sights of picturesque Ushuaia, we spend time at the spectacular Ushuaia airport. The Lineas Aereas Del Estado - LADE Fokker F27 and the weekly Aerolineas Argentinas 747-400 flight from Buenos Aires are the star attractions along with Aerolineas Argentinas MD-83 action and LAN’s A320 service. We then board our Aerolineas MD-83 for the flight back to the Aeroparque in Buenos Aires. The DVD includes the taxi and departure at Ushuaia as well as AEP video action!
AWESOME sights & sounds from those big Allisons! Varig operated their Electras on the Ponte Aerea until 1992, when the fleet was sold to two-bit airlines in Africa. The footage was taken at Rio's Santos Dumont Airport.
By Andysvideo.com: On the 17th of October 1996 the worlds only surviving Vanguard (Merchantman) G-APEP made its last ever flight into Brooklands. This may not seem very surprising as Vanguards flew in and out of Brooklands all the time, back in the days when they were building them there. However, by 1996, the Runway had been cut in half by the new road - Wellington Way. Also, the airfield had not been an operational field for many years and offered many challenges to the brave crew!
At the time I was Managing director of National Rescue and had been planning to move the aircraft by road. I was very pleased when Peter and Gary said the could fly it in. So they went off and practised short landings at East Midlands Airport, while we put a plan together to close a busy industrial estate down, while they landed.
This video shows you what happened on the day, from my vantage point up in the Control Tower.
