This film is an aviation classic and features lots of air-to-air footage of North American Airlines DC-8-30. Robertson was a stunt pilot and added a DC8 typerating so he could fly the air-to-air stuff himself. Camera ship was flown by Clay Lacy. NASA is using a DC-8 aircraft as a flying science laboratory. The platform aircraft, based at NASA's Dryden Flight Research Center, Edwards, Calif., collects data for many experiments in support of scientific projects serving the world scientific community. Included in this community are NASA, federal, state, academic and foreign investigators. Data gathered by the DC-8 at flight altitude and by remote sensing have been used for scientific studies in archeology, ecology, geography, hydrology, meteorology, oceanography, volcanology, atmospheric chemistry, soil science and biology.

One of the keys to gathering data for Operation IceBridge is a highly modified McDonnell Douglas DC-8 jetliner, which NASA operates as a flying science laboratory. This workhorse DC-8 can fly long trips, allowing a suite of scientific instruments to study the Arctic ice sheet, glaciers and sea ice.
