London/Heathrow action from the late 60s. Watch for a Swissair CV-990, Aeroflot IL-62, Aer Lingus 720, and if you blink, you'll miss the Pan Am DC-8.

Produced by French TV, this news report from Kinshasa explains the current state of the airline industry in the Congo. The Congo based airlines operate with patched up Russian built An-24s and IL-18s, or old 727s purchased out of the Mojave desert. The country lacks basic airline safety regulations: this news report shows people living under old aircraft hulks, people wandering around the aircraft operations area, and aircraft parts being sold without documentation and proper storage. It really is amazing to see how backwards the avaition scene in the Congo is today. The news report also features interviews Stavros Paparoannog, Director of Kinshasa based Hewa Bora Airways.

The Yankee Clipper flew across the Atlantic on a route from New York to Southampton. The inaugural trip occurred on June 24, 1939. The Yankee Clipper crashed February 22, 1943 in Lisbon, Portugal. During the war the Yankee was assigned to the navy and allowed to continue passenger service between the United States and Portugal (indirectly serving all Europeans able to reach Lisbon). On February 22, 1943, after completing its 241st transatlantic flight, the Yankee Clipper circled for a landing on the Tagus River in Lisbon, Portugal. Her port wing tip skimmed the water, dug in, and she slammed into the river, breaking into several pieces, and sank inside of 10 minutes.

http://www.henrytenby.com/DVDs/Mars2010dvd.html On February 24, 2010, a major propliner event nearly went unnoticed. The City of Richmond arranged for a Martin Mars to fly to Steveston (in South Richmond, BC) and land on the Fraser River, moor overnight off the beach at Garry Point Park, and then depart the following day laying on a water drop aerial display for those present. This was all arranged in celebration of the City of Richmond's support of the 2010 Winter Games. Airline videographer Henry Tenby filmed the entire display of Hawaii Mars C-FLYL forever preserving this historic event. It’s all here including engine start, the lengthy engine warm ups as the aircraft water taxied up and down the Fraser River, the spectacular take-off, the water scoop, water drop and final flypast. Filmed with broadcast video equipment, the sights and sounds of this remarkable piston pounder can be savoured in all their glorious splendour. This DVD will be most appreciated by true propliner connoisseurs!
