WANTED: VINTAGE AIRLINE DISPLAY MODELS / SPECIALLY VERKUYL METAL MODELS: In the mid 90s airline display model collector Henry Tenby paid a number of visits to Brian Austria-Tompkins at his Executive Display Models showroom at the Sheraton Skyline Hotel at Heathrow airport. This 4 minute video gives a detailed view of the goodies in the shop circa 1994. The two RAF Blackburn Beverley models are superb. As are the 1/72 scale models of the Canadian Pacific DC-6, PIA Connie, TAR CL-44, and Monarch Britannia. And I really love the 1/100th scale Cathay Pacific CV880 hanging on the wall. It is an accurate and lovely period model. I have no idea who made that model but would certainly like to know. At the end of the clip, the late Brian Austria-Tomkins appears at his desk prepping a 1/72 scale British Midland Boeing 707 for a customer. All great memories, which I am glad I had the foresight to film my visit. Fabulous models to marvel at. What an amazing business Brian ran, as it serviced demanding collectors from all over the world, with a quality that is pretty much un-matched to this very day. It is a shame Brian is no longer with us, and this video is dedicated to him.

Several years ago, Henry Tenby started a one-man effort communicating with Air Canada, the NFB, and the Canadian Museum of Science and Technology, with the purpose of digitizing the TCA / Air Canada's historic film archives, and presenting the airline's moving image history in a series of DVDs. The whole idea was to unlock this great, forgotten cine film material so it could be enjoyed by everyone, not only today, but in the future. Air Canada had donated their film archives to the government museum as simply ran out of space. And it hadn't seen the light of day in decades. As the films were in many cases 50 to 70 years old, Henry felt it was imperative that the films be digitized sooner than later, to protect the precious images from age related deterioration. In 2013, these fabulous historic films will be released by HenryTenby.com and we hope you enjoy this short film, which is our way of saying Happy Birthday to Air Canada, and thank you to all the airline's great staff for building such a superb company that all Canadians can be proud of. This clip features Trans-Canada Air Lines' Lockheed Lodestar, Avro Lancastrian, Canadair DC-4M2 Northstar, Douglas DC-3, Lockheed Super Constellation, Vickers Viscount and Vanguard, and Douglas DC-8; the latter types which also appear in Air Canada colours circa mid-1960s.

This film from the 1960s show FAA crash test results using a derelict Lockheed Constellation which is powered up into flame iginition posts. The resulting impact causes the Connie to burst into flames and she sheds her gear as she stumbles to the ground in a heaping pile of dissintegration and flames.

Sorry guys; no airplane audio on this one, but the visuals make up for it! Lot's of DC-7's, Connie's, DC-6's, etc. Some nice "Above the airport" aerial scenes too.
